Pre-Marital Counseling
Are you and your partner looking to take your relationship to the next level through marriage or long-term commitment?
There’s a lot of excitement (and sometimes stress) when you’re considering next steps in a relationship or planning for marriage. Pre-marital counseling might be last on your list if it’s there at all. However, pre-marital counseling can set a strong foundation for your relationship to succeed in the long-term.
Pre-marital counseling can help you and your significant other improve your relationship by helping you develop better communication skills, learn conflict resolution skills, uncover your shared core values as well as identify differences that could create future conflict. Working with a therapist, you can discuss expectations with your partner that will help better prepare both of you for your next steps.
So if these sound like you…
- You and your partner have arguments that don’t get resolved
- You feel like you’re always the one who has to compromise to keep the peace
- You’re concerned about how your partner’s financial situation will affect you as a married couple
- You’re worried about losing affection or having a diminished sex life after marriage
- You want to find healthier ways to resolve conflict
- You want to resolve religious or financial differences
- You want to define your roles and expectations
…Then pre-marital counseling can be a great benefit to both you and your partner.
Dr. Cacace uses a systems-based approach, along with the Prepare/Enrich framework, a research based tool designed to help couples explore strengths, growth areas, and shared values. You'll receive personal insights based on an assessment, including information about your communication, conflict patterns, expectations, and more.
This said, Dr. Cacace recognizes that the original Prepare/Enrich framework was developed from a more traditional lens. If you are in a queer relationship, non-religious, or exploring your unique values around commitment, you may notice that some of the language (particularly around gender and roles) in Prepare/Enrich may not feel fully inclusive. We will talk about this together, and Dr. Cacace will always adapt every session to center YOU - your identities, values, and goals as a couple.
Whether you are looking for structure, support, or a space to ask the big questions before taking your next step together, pre-marital counseling can help you build clarity and strengthen your connection.
